Ireland has a long history in motorsport with too many famous names to mention on the National and International scene worldwide. Ireland also has two major rally championships (national and international) and with some regional championships and also some well known non championship events contested over closed roads (sealed surfaces) and with Irish rallying enjoying a huge following worldwide, it was only fitting that Ireland host a ‘Tarmac Round’ of the 2007 World Rally Championship.

The Future of the World Rally Championship

The FIA has revised the rules of the World Rally Championship and so from the end of 2009 the modern WRC car has been banned. The S2000 car with a turbo will take its place. The reason for this is to make rallying more affordable for manufacturers and going by the interest shown, this may not be a bad thing with more manufacturers waiting to come on board when the new S2000 rules come into play.

Latest World Rally Car “Subaru Impreza WRC 2008” set to launch in Greece

STI (SUBARU TECNICA INTERNATIONAL, President Ichiro Kudoh, based in Mitaka Tokyo), a subsidiary company of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), undertaking all motorsport activities for Subaru, announced that the company will compete in Round 7 of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), the “Acropolis Rally” to be held at the end of May with two of the latest evolution models of the Subaru Impreza WRC, the WRC 2008.
